This will be my eleventh year of the April A to Z Blog Challenge, where participants post every day of the month except Sundays: 26 times, with a post for every letter of the alphabet.
This year, 2024, I will be writing about the parish of Whitmore in Staffordshire, England, in the mid-nineteenth century, when my 4th great grandfather Rowland Mainwaring (1782–1862) lived there.
I was inspired to look at Whitmore by a series of presentations given last September by the Society for One-Place Studies to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
For me in Ballarat, Australia, Whitmore is on the far side of the world. Fortunately, a great many of its records have survived, and I can visit—virtually—the home of my 4th grandfather as it was two hundred years ago.
I look forward to sharing what I have learned.

Great theme choice for the A to Z challenge! Looking forward to the rest of your alphabet journey!
My topic (here: https://gritandgrace2015.blogspot.com/2024/03/atozchallenge-theme-announcement.html ) may not have as much appeal for everyone, but I’m going to give it a try 🙂

Looks like a good theme. I look forward to reading along and learning some tips and tricks for researching from afar. What would we do without the Internet?

Here we are again and I am looking forward to your investigation of Whitmore – any one subject view is a lense on the wider history but in a novel way…

I’ve never had the opportunity to visit England (or Australia, though I have family there), but I look forward to learning more about Whitmore and what you’ve learned about your 4th great-grandfather.

Exciting theme reveal! I’m looking forward to following your A-to-Z journey throughout April. Best of luck with the challenge. I’ve restarted my blog and deleted all the old content since I’ve been away for about 10 years and am coming back with the A-to-Z Challenge, hopefully it’ll give me some blog theme motivation and some dedicated readers. My theme is here: https://illusionsofchaos.blogspot.com/2024/03/hello-again-atozchallenge-theme-reveal.html

What an interesting topic! I’m keen to see what you write about.
I’ll be doing my A to Z of me and my inspirations – hopefully I’ll be giving people some ideas about what I’m doing and why I’m writing what I do. And shedding a bit more light on something that happened to me in October.
